In times of increasing crises, tribulations and impending catastrophes, which mostly enter the life of the individual through seemingly external, legal or financial events, there has always been a need for honorable men and women who contributed to the solution of problems by pointing out connections, causes and effects.
Of elementary importance is an understanding of the larger worldly contexts of our daily lives. These include the political, legal, commercial, and contractual positions of institutions and individuals.
Suppose one is born on the high seas on a ship and believes for years that one is on land. However, in order to deal with the situation appropriately, it is existentially important to first understand that one is on a ship. You have to understand how this ship works and how to steer it. One must learn about the ocean and also become aware of pirates on the waters.
Equipped with this knowledge, the individual then has the opportunity for the first time to be able to creatively master the dangers of life "at sea."
In the present book, the author introduces us to the basic rules of life "at sea," that is, maritime or commercial law, and attempts to equip the reader with navigational tools that might be helpful to him. He encourages the reader to rely on himself, to rely on logic, and to refrain from demanding "apparent certainties" from third parties, i.e. a "pilot".
Well equipped in this way, even the increasing crises, tribulations and impending catastrophes may be met with confidence. We can even be thankful for these crises insofar as they have pulled this society and us as individuals out of the rigidity of the last decades and challenged us to open ourselves to new things. Unfortunately, we humans learn in only two ways: insight or pain, and we usually choose option two.
May the reader succeed in applying the offered, highly valuable, because enlightening knowledge.
